mailed overSSRS Failed Subscription Notifications « Jeff Prom’s SQL Server Weblog

Great little query against your ReportServer db that you can create a report from to see subscription failures. A little tweaking and creativity and you’ve got the makings of a set of subscription management reports.

SQL Server 2008 Upgrade – Virtual Test Environment

Posted by admin On February - 20 - 2009

Lots oAs previously posted, we have embarked on a project that includes the upgrade and consolidation of SQL Server machines from version 2000 and 2005 to a single server running SQL Server 2008. We have been performing testing to find the optimal path for performing these tasks.

This series of articles present our findings and processes as we performed them. These processes may not be optimal nor preferred in other installations, but they represent the best case for our particular assignment. As such, we certainly welcome feedback.

Neither rain, nor snow, nor flat tire. Hall PostAs we have posted about before, we are getting close to our upgrade and consolidation from SQL Server 2000 and 2005 environments into a single SQL Server 2008 environment. In preparation for this we found ourselves also needing to change our SMTP settings for SSRS to a non-default setup. Hopefully this might save you a few minutes if you find yourself in a similar situation.

Does your mail delivery look like this? ;)

Suffering for Christ – Pray

Posted by admin On February - 8 - 2009

[Note: Yup, this is not about technology and I don't claim to be some big shot theologian. These are just my thoughts to be shared today.]

Woman reading Mape NTThis Sunday morning I sat quietly and listened to the book of 2 Timothy. Yes, the entire book. I felt led to listen, to feel the words of Paul. From that listening, I’ve gone back to further delve into some passages.

[Note: Faith Comes By Hearing has a great set of Audio Bibles.]

Bomgar Remote Assistant User Training Videos

Posted by admin On February - 5 - 2009

DownpourIf you do remote assistance/support, chances are that you have used a variety of tools. These tools runs the gambit from quick and dirty to enterprise solutions. Over the past 2 years, I have come to really love a particular solution, Bomgar (formerly Network Streaming). This solution has been very successfully used by myself and colleagues to resolve client issues from across town to across the world.

The folks at Bomgar are quick Education and Missions friendly and the tools are great. Again for missions or ministries utilizing Bomgar, training budgets can be very tight. so, in an effort to provide the best of the free, we have compiled the following resource to help you get the most out of the tool and your staff.

YouTube – BomgarBox’s Channel
Great little series of videos about Bomgar use from the YouTube user, BomgarBox. Of course you can get the originals from theBomgar videos page.

Bomger User Guide – PDF
User Guide in PDF Format. 35 Pages of yummy, user centric goodness.

Supporting the Campus Remotely, from Bomgar – White Papers, Webcasts and Case Studies – ZDNet
Good whitepaper on the use of Bomgar in an education setting. 30 Minutes and Bomgar is ready to go.

Besides, you can follow the Founder and CEO on Twitter.  ;)

BTW, one of my favorite features of Bomgar is the remote reboot. Reboots the client machine and “auto-magically” re-establishes the Bomgar remote session upon reboot. Love it!

Posted by Tom On February - 4 - 2009

workinDo you follow the instructions for upgrading Drupal? If you do, you put your site into maintenance mode as part of the process. (I smile writing this because I haven’t always followed those instructions and I’m betting you haven’t always either.) It is the right thing to do though.

But that is only one reason your users might see the maintenance page. If your host has database problems, you could be showing your customers the default Drupal maintenance or offline page. Probably not the image you were looking for. This article will walk you through the process of creating custom maintenance/offline pages for your Drupal sites that will keep a profession look and feel, respecting your site design and style.

Drupal Recipe: Create an Image Who’s Online Block

Posted by Tom On February - 2 - 2009

whos_online_finalRecently in Drupal 6, I needed to create a way to display images showing the currently logged in users for a project we are working on. Essentially, this is a Who’s Online block but rather than displaying usernames, we want to show user profile pictures. Additionally, we extended this with the Gravatar module. Adding this module allowed us to have user profile pictures for users even if they did not upload one if their email address had a gravatar associated with it.
